7A Assembly – Netizens don’t get trapped

On the 29th of June, 2018, 7A presented their assembly on ‘Netizens – Don’t Get Trapped in The Web’, a much-needed awakening for our cyber safety.

A digital footprint is all the information that you have ever posted on social media, which alarmingly, can be accessed not only by your friends and family, but also by strangers.  The impact of one’s digital footprint on the present as well as future admissions for students was emphasized.

The children informed the audience of the rights and responsibilities of netizens. Through the depiction of real life examples, valuables insights were imparted. Simple steps in security settings on social networking sites and smartphones could be self-protective.

Health hazards that one needs to safeguard against were highlighted, as were simple exercises to prevent them from occurring.

Enhancing one’s awareness, the students listed a number of websites that help you to distinguish between real and fake news. Students were also cautioned against indulging in cyber bullying and were advised to report it to a trusted adult if they ever came across it.

  • SciCheck — Focuses exclusively on false and misleading scientific claims.
  • Politifact — Pulitzer Prize-winning fact-check site.
  • Snopes — Fact-checking site.
  • All Sides — Provides multiple angles on the same story.

The audience was urged to become Safe Mindful Aware Responsible Tenacious netizens.
