Science Fair 2019
On the 22nd of November, 2019, Cathedral and John Connon School hosted its annual science fair, INQUEST 2019. The theme for this year’s fair was ‘Colour’ and the projects presented by the students dealt with the various aspects of colour in the fields of chemistry, biology, physics, astronomy, robotics and various others.
The annual affair saw 10 schools presenting a total of 26 projects in a competitive and non-competitive manner but with the joint aim of promoting the learning of the sciences. The projects put forth by the students ranged from nano gold particles for cancer treatment to sensing of colours by robots.
A vast array of models, research topics, small scale representations of massive hypothesis, the science fair was in conclusion successful in its endeavor of igniting the fire of curiosity in these students’ minds, allowing them to explore, learn and apply concepts into the real world, grooming them to solve problems of the future.
In order to introduce a competitive streak, Mr Bibek Samal, Ms. Diksha Kumari and Mr. Aparajit Chandrasekaran from Tata Institute of Fundamental Research were requested to judge the various displays.
Based on their observations and understanding of the projects the first and third prize was given to NL Dalmia and the second prize was bagged by SSRVM.
In the non competitive section which included students from the Cathedral and John Connon School, Ritvik Goradia and Vea Choubey, Rhea Bhasin, Zaara Barot received high commendations for their projects.
To grace the occasion TIFR neuroscientist Vidita Vaidya was invited to give a speech to the student science enthusiasts. Owing to the theme of the fair, Ms. Vaidya explained the often over looked association between art and science. She went to boggle the audience with colourful, visual illusions further explaining how history perceived the brain to be as and its integration in art particularly during the Renaissance and also modern research into the artistic arrangement of neurons with their functions.
With an engaging day of exploration and learning, the captivating closing ceremony perfectly concluded the invigorating INQUEST 2019.
