Palghar Eco Forest Visit
The Students of Std. 10C and the 9C EVS class was taken on a field trip to the Eco Forest in Palghar.
On the farm tour the students saw the different stages of the budding of a pomegranate flower and how it turns into fruit, learnt the correct way to pluck okra and how betel nut fruit covering is used to make ropes whereas the nut is used as a digestive.
There were a variety of trees like sandal wood, lime, drumstick, coconut and banana.
They went to a poly house and saw the growth of spinach and tomatoes. They saw vermiculture where earthworms are used to digest food and plant waste. The material is then used as manure to make the soil fertile.
There was a cow shed and a goat shed where the students played with the goats and also learned how their faeces is used to make excellent natural fertiliser.
They also saw a beehive where the guide removed a slide from the box which was full of buzzing bees and a queen bee as well. They understood the process of bees getting nectar from the flowers and making honey.
The most exciting activity was paddy cultivation where the students were given the rice sapling and were told to insert it in the soil.
After finishing this, they saw an artificial lake in which fish were bred.
