Basket Composting

The Nature Club organized a vermicomposting workshop at the school which was conducted by Dr. Jayant Joshi. The workshop demonstrated how to use the kitchen waste to prepare vermicompost to be used as a substitute for plant fertilizers. Thus kitchen waste like peels of fruits and vegetables, leaves, unused vegetables and raw foods could be left in the basket for a week or more.A suitable number of worms are required to be added to accelerate the process of composting. The end product is a healthy, chemical free compost that is usable for kitchen gardens, terrace gardens and potted gardens.

The workshop enthused lot of green among the participants with several lining up to collect the literature on vermicomposting at the end of the workshop.
